On the bicentenary of the birth of Alberto Pasini, the first public screening of the documentary directed by Mohamed Kenawi

A journey through the life and work of one of the most important Italian Orientalist painters of the nineteenth century, born in Busseto and protagonist of an extraordinary international artistic career.

Speakers will include the director Mohamed Kenawi, the artistic director Paolo Serafini and the production team.

The Painter of the Orient – Alberto Pasini is directed by Mohamed Kenawi and produced by BlackBoxMultiMedia LTD and Domino Film.

The documentary traces the key stages of Pasini’s life: from his training in Parma to his Parisian experience, through to the long journeys in Persia, Egypt and Turkey that deeply shaped his artistic research.

Through paintings, photographs, documents, testimonies and footage shot in the places the artist visited, the film recounts his particular gaze on the Orient and the relationship between East and West.

A narrative that also engages with the theme of Orientalism and with Pasini’s choice to know and represent distant lands through direct experience, observation and travel.

The event is also part of the side programme of the Festival Verdi, creating a dialogue between two great nineteenth-century figures, both born in the Parma area and capable of building an international dimension.
