Verdi 10/10 returns for its Fifth Edition: on 9 and 10 October, Busseto and Roncole celebrate Aida
The territory of Busseto and Roncole Verdi is preparing for the Fifth Edition of Verdi 10/10, the festival dedicated to celebrating the birth of Giuseppe Verdi. Organised by the Comitato Verdi 10/10 – 27/01, a network of local associations, the initiative aims to promote culture and tourism through a wide-ranging exploration of the Maestro’s world.
This year the guiding theme is the opera Aida, presented for audiences of all ages through different languages: experiential guided tours, theatre workshops, violin-making laboratories, in-depth sessions and cross-over musical performances.

Metals have accompanied human life for five thousand years: they have been and still are extremely important both in their biological functions and in their applications, while also having darker sides that deserve attention.
In this evening we will talk about what metals are, how they are made and why they behave in certain ways, why they are sometimes very dangerous and at other times of vital importance.

The architect and illustrator Jacques Androuet du Cerceau played a decisive role in spreading the innovations of the Renaissance in sixteenth-century France. One of the tools through which he pursued this goal was the production of sumptuous albums of drawings from the antique, highly appreciated by the elite of the time; only a handful of examples survive, scattered between Europe and North America. A recent discovery in the collections of the Houghton Library at Harvard provides a significant addition to this small but precious catalogue, revealing the origin of du Cerceau’s intellectual project.

Giuseppe Moroni (Cremona 1888 – Rome 1959) was not only a painter of easel pictures and mural decorations for monumental buildings of the early twentieth century, from the Terme Berzieri in Salsomaggiore to the Terme Tettuccio in Montecatini, from the Vittoriano to the headquarters of the Bank of Italy in Rome. An important phase of his artistic creativity was devoted to the preparation of artistic stained-glass windows in his workshop in Pieveottoville. For the most part he produced sacred subjects, but he did not neglect secular ones, as shown by the large composition “Le vie del sogno” commissioned for Villa Corbellini.

This “reading” aims to reconstruct the epigraphic corpus, largely deteriorated by the ravages of time, that accompanies Michelangelo Anselmi’s pictorial cycle in the Chapel of the Conception of the Collegiate Church of S. Bartolomeo in Busseto (Parma), between theological debate, patronage and visual perception.
Biblioteca di Busseto | 11 October 2026 – 31 January 2027
From the scholarship that allowed the young Giuseppe Verdi to further his studies in Milan to the testamentary documents that sealed his final wishes, the exhibition tells, through a selection of original autographs and documents belonging to Fondazione Cariparma, almost the entire human, artistic and civic story of the Maestro.
Set up in the monumental rooms of the Biblioteca di Busseto, the exhibition traces seventy years of history, from 1831 to 1901. The itinerary opens with the scholarship application submitted in 1831 to the Monte di Pietà of Busseto and continues with the 1837 letter to Duchess Marie Louise of Austria, in which Verdi asks to perform at the court of Parma. Among the most significant documents is the dedication of Macbeth (1847) to his father-in-law Antonio Barezzi, described as “father, benefactor and friend”.
Alongside the testimonies of his career are those of his role as an educator, with the study certificates of his only pupil Emanuele Muzio and a letter of recommendation from 1851. Considerable space is also given to his civic commitment, documented by the 1859 appeal in support of the fallen of the Second War of Independence and by the decision, in 1876, to establish an annual pension for a deserving student.
The itinerary concludes with his final testamentary wishes, the bequest to the Monte di Pietà of Busseto, and two precious musical autographs: a sketch for Simon Boccanegra (1881) and the sketch for the final Concertato of Act III of Otello, among the last pages destined for the stage.
Opening: Sunday 11 October 2026, 10:00 a.m. The exhibition is open until 31 January 2027 every Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and every second Sunday of the month on the occasion of “Meravigliosa biblioteca”. Admission is free.

Saturday 17 October 2026 at 7:00 p.m. – Teatro Verdi
A journey through the life and work of one of the most important Italian Orientalist painters of the nineteenth century, born in Busseto and protagonist of an extraordinary international artistic career.
Speakers will include the director Mohamed Kenawi, the artistic director Paolo Serafini and the production team.
The Painter of the Orient – Alberto Pasini is directed by Mohamed Kenawi and produced by BlackBoxMultiMedia LTD and Domino Film.
The documentary traces the key stages of Pasini’s life: from his training in Parma to his Parisian experience, through to the long journeys in Persia, Egypt and Turkey that deeply shaped his artistic research.
Through paintings, photographs, documents, testimonies and footage shot in the places the artist visited, the film recounts his particular gaze on the Orient and the relationship between East and West.
A narrative that also engages with the theme of Orientalism and with Pasini’s choice to know and represent distant lands through direct experience, observation and travel.
The event is also part of the side programme of the Festival Verdi, creating a dialogue between two great nineteenth-century figures, both born in the Parma area and capable of building an international dimension.

• 10:30 a.m. – Guided tour of the treasures of the Church and the Monastery, with a narrative of the important role of the Franciscans in Busseto in history, art and community life. Some examples: the Monte di Pietà of Busseto was established in 1537 at the initiative of the Franciscan Father Giovanni Antonio Maiavacca, with the aim of combating usury by offering pawn loans to the less well-off. The typical bread of Busseto, the “miseria”, is said to derive its name from the daily distribution to the poor of the town by the friars at the midday bell, hence nicknamed the “bell of misery”. Father Ireneo Affò (1741-1797), a man of letters and art historian belonging to the Order of Observant Friars Minor and from 1785 librarian of the Biblioteca Palatina of Parma, lived in the convent.

Programme notes Through “Gloriosus Franciscus”, Anonima Frottolisti offers a cross-section of the history of music dedicated to the Franciscan ideal across the first three centuries of the Order’s history, an anthological journey capable of highlighting both the learned character and the closeness to “popularising” devotion between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, a symbolic recognition of the city that saw the birth of the ensemble.
Anonima Frottolisti was founded in 2008 in Assisi and focuses on the medieval and Renaissance repertoire, with particular attention to the musical productions of Italian and European Humanism. It has performed in Italy and abroad at some of the most important European early music festivals: Sweden, Lithuania, Bosnia, England, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Spain, Germany. For the Tactus label it has released: “MUSICA DISONESTA” – “GLORIOSUS FRANCISCUS” – “DI CORTE IN CORTE” – “ALMA SVEGLIATE ORMAI” – “LA MUSICA NELLE LETTERE D’ISABELLA D’ESTE”. For Brillant, in collaboration with Armoniosoincanto (dir. Franco Radicchia), it has recorded the complete Laudario di Cortona. For the Ritmi production it has recorded the “Passio Sancti Ruphyni”, a medieval Passion dedicated to the Patron Saint of the city of Assisi. The ensemble is artistic director of the Festival Musica dalla Torre – Marciano della Chiana (Ar) and collaborates with the Accademia d’Arti Antiche Resonars on educational projects related to medieval and Renaissance music. In 2020 the ensemble was nominated for the International Classical Music Awards. The ensemble has collaborated on film productions, television series, and international radio and television programmes, including: “L’ombra di Caravaggio”, “I Borgia”, RaiRadio3, RSI2, Radio HRT, Rai1, and documentaries on Franciscanism by Lauro Production. In 2021 it composed the soundtrack for the film “Chiara” by director Susanna Nicchiarelli, in competition at the 79th Venice Biennale.
